Individual stock ownership
"Retail ownership of U.S. equities is at a record low, according to The Conference Board Inc., which is based in New York. Individual investors owned 33% of U.S. equities at the end of 2007, a drop from a 63% retail ownership of equities in 1980. In contrast, institutional investors controlled assets totaling $27 trillion at the end of 2007, an 11% increase from two years ago, the report said."
