Two announcements from the office

Momentous occasion

Cupcakespeach May 17 is an important day in the history of U.S. stock markets. On this day in 1792, the New York Stock Exchange was founded by 24 brokers at 70 Wall St. in New York. And just *ahem* 21 years ago, our very own Kim Snider was born, setting in motion another monumental shift in the way people invest.

This is a silly way of saying "€œHappy Birthday" to our boss and friend, Kim Snider. From all of us at the office, we hope you have a great day!

Family Milestone

2006_staff_jesse2006_staff_ellen Congratulations to our Manager of Trading, Jesse Anderson, and part-time Financial Advisor Ellen Hughes for their two years of service with Chronim Advisors. We greatly appreciate all both of you do for the company. You help make our team the best it can be!

An idea for optionsXpress

Snider Investment Method™ alumni Paul Crider sent the following idea to optionsXpress:

This is an idea for you to consider. Probably there is a significant percentage of your customers who have more than one account. I have on a few occasions made a trade in one account which I intended to make in another account. For some reason the account switched from the IRA account to the margin account or vice versa. This switch is easy to miss because the account designation button is small in comparison to the rest of the page and much of the time has scrolled off of the monitor screen.

Why can't different accounts have a different background color, i.e., the current white background for margin accounts, light pink for IRA accounts, and other colors for whatever other types of categories OX offers. Alternately, and probably even better, program the software so that each customer can choose a color for each account.

This would be helpful for the adult child who is handling his/her own account and also the same type of account for the elderly mother or father. It could very well reduce the frequency of trades made on the wrong account and the need for OX employees to "bust" trades from one account to another. I mentioned this idea to Kim Snider this weekend, and she thought you folks at OX may like the idea.

Here is the reply from Lou Friedman at optionsXpress:

Great idea Mr. Crider.

Happy to report this is now in the works, and will be available to you and ALL of Kim's students sometime before the end of March!

When it goes live, you'll have the ability to change the color of the web site in your profile settings. You will be able to choose a different color for each account.

Our best ideas come from customers like you.

Thank you for your business. Keep in touch.

Lou Friedmann, EVP

I think this is a great idea - it's simple and should be useful to a lot of our students. Does anyone else have any ideas that we should pass along to optionsXpress? If so, leave them in the comments below. Thanks Paul for your follow-through.

Help Us Make the Snider Investment Method Better

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend an all day meeting to explore

How to use the collective knowledge of our user community to make the Snider Investment Method™ better for everyone

Unless you were on the Inaugural Snider Investment Method Alumni Cruise, you have probably never attended a meeting like this one before. The meeting format:

  1. Lets us design our own agenda and promises that anything that is important to any of us about the theme has the opportunity to be discussed;
  2. Enables you to connect with others who share your interests at the meeting with an opportunity to continue networking with these people beyond the meeting;
  3. Acknowledges and works with the wisdom, experience, and expertise that you and others have to work on the theme;
  4. Provides the opportunity to have meaningful conversation, involvement, and connecting;
  5. Enables you to move from one discussion to another so that at every moment, you use your personal energy by either learning or contributing;
  6. Provides a written summary of every session compiled into a book of proceedings for each participant to use beyond the meeting for ongoing work; and
  7. Supports action planning at the meeting itself and beyond the meeting.

The meeting format is called Open Space Technology and it produces amazing results in a very short time. Meeting details are as follows:

Saturday, February 3, 2007

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

American Airlines Training & Conference Center

Fort Worth, Texas

Cost: $95 per person

includes lunch and all-day snacks

Our objectives are:

  • Identify the issues involved in creating a vibrant community of users working to extend and improve the Snider Investment Method
  • Create working groups of people willing to tackle those issues and next steps
  • Understand how Kim Snider Financial Communications and Chronim Advisors can best facilitate the efforts of the working groups
  • Ultimately, create an ongoing framework for the community to assume ownership of the Snider Method and continually make it better for themselves and everyone else who uses it. Think open source software and you'll kind of get the big idea.

There are some givens, or assumptions, that you should work within during this meeting and all follow-up activities

  • The company will embrace and disseminate any changes that can be empirically proven to improve the Snider Method within the current risk reward profile
  • All extensions or improvements to the Snider Method become the intellectual property of the company. Members of the working groups will receive no compensation for their ideas other than the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from helping other people.
  • The company will do its best to facilitate and support all working groups but the groups are expected to be self-organizing

How to Register

Please call Kim Snider Financial Communications at 214-965-9950 or 866-952-0100 with your credit card handy to register.

What to Expect

  1. In the morning when you arrive for the Open Space meeting, the meeting room will be set up with a circle of chairs. Pick any chair. Together, we will create the agenda during the first thirty minutes. Through the creation of the agenda, leaders of topics will identify themselves. Each person will be invited to sign up for the topics they are interested in. Participants will then manage their own time and energy, attending sessions of interest. Leaders will be responsible for getting their topic going, ensuring that a report of the proceedings is created for entry into the book of proceedings.

  1. Company employees will participate in meetings that are of interest to them. They may also convene a meeting like anyone else.

  1. There will be a break for lunch. We will eat together in the Black Hawk Dining Room. Lunch is provided as part of the price. There will be no formal breaks, however break stations will be set up with snacks and beverages.

  1. At the end of the day, we will gather again in our circle.  We will review the list of topics and the session notes for each meeting and action plans for next steps.  We will end at 5 PM.

  1. More information about the process that we will use for our meeting is available at www.openspaceworld.org.

  1. Copies of the book of proceedings will be distributed to everyone and posted on the Snider Insider.  Next steps will proceed according to "givens" that were noted previously.

Please join me in Open Space. Working together, I know we can make the Snider Method even better than it is today.

Alumni-Only Snider Investment Method Refresher

2006_snider_investment_method_logo_2 I have had several requests in recent weeks for a one-day, alumni-only, Snider Investment MethodTM refresher class. The people who have asked for it have indicated they want just the meat and the ability to ask questions without getting the new students off track.

I would be happy to put an alumni-only refresher together if there is enough interest. Of course, I would incur a cost that I would have to pass on.

So my question is, how many of you would be interested and in what format? We could either do a live refresher at the American Airlines Training & Conference Center in Dallas - Fort Worth or we could do an on-line event so that anyone could attend.

Please let me know if you would be interested and which format you prefer by completing the survey below. Both obviously have plusses and minuses. I am willing to do it either way.

Also, if you are interested, please tell me what topics you would like/need for us to cover. You can leave that information in the comments section down below.
