Variable Annuities Stink (Lunch with Kim March 2, 2007)
Why do we dislike them? Let us count the ways. Variable annuities are a hot topic these days. You hear them pitched on radio, promoted at seminars, presented by brokers and peddled by insurance agents everywhere you turn. Do they have value? If so, where should they fit in your portfolio?
If buying a variable annuity, or rather being sold one, is on your financial planning agenda, please take a few moments and listen to Kim Snider as she discusses the numerous issues, few strengths and overwhelming pitfalls that define variable annuities. They not only pique Kim’s ire, but also cause popular financial columnist and bestselling author Jane Bryant Quinn to loudly decry variable annuities as “One Faulty Investment.”

State of the Method Address
We held our first ever Digital Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, January 23rd. Because it was the same night as the State of the Union Address, we called it the State of the Method Address. But henceforth and forever more, this event shall be known as the Digital Town Hall.
The format of the meeting was about thirty minutes of prepared remarks and the rest of the time, people sent in their questions and I answered them. For those of you who missed it, we (Andrew) finally figured out how to put such a huge file on the web. Total run time is about an hour and a half. This is a huge file! I doubt you will be able to play it without broadband and it may need a minute or two to buffer. Be patient!
We plan to hold these events every three to six months. The feedback we got back was really positive. A sample is below. I hope you will join us for the next one.
Feedback from the State of the Method Address:
Great webcast. Very informative. Smooth presentation. I liked it very much.
I was really surprised at the quality and speed. Everything looked very professional. Not that this means a lot… but yours was way more interesting than the President’s also.
Gerry (my wife) and I thoroughly enjoyed your webcast last evening (thank god for DVRs - or we would have been choosing between you and American Idol!!!). We first heard of your method last May, I attended class in June and we immediately jumped in with everything we had. After class we studied hard to really 'learn' the method. The results have been phenomenal and have allowed us to dream dreams beyond anything we previously thought possible.
That was fantastic! What a way to communicate with us all! Casey and I just loved it, viewing you all the way from Puerto Vallarta. And may I say, from both of us... "You Look Marvelous!"
I know you don't have time to respond to all emails, but we are really grateful our paths crossed.
Great production last night! Watched the whole thing, as did my wife, who was quite impressed! I hope you stay on track with this at once per quarter. BTW, I was quite thrilled that the first question you addressed (regarding bundling) was mine!
Your session tonight spoke, in large part, to the core of the negative comments I have heard; winter, why winter, why you accept that, yes there is risk, there is no perfect investment... As I've told you before, your blunt honesty as to why you do it the way you do and why you feel that is the best that can be done at this time given the risk/reward provides comfort for at least myself and I suspect other newer alumni as well.
Very nicely done this evening. You always come across as such a sincere speaker and you have a great staff for support. Kudos!!!
